Last Days in Hawaii!

Crew night out - Spanglish spoken!
Crew night out – Spanglish spoken!

After three (unplanned!) years on Oahu, things finally lined up for us to set sail – engine fixed, crew available, captain recovered from shoulder injury, and reasonable weather conditions.

The last few days, as always before a big passage, were all about provisioning and preparations, with the added (fun)challenge of teaching Ivan, our friend from Spain, to sail! John, friend of a friend from New York, who joined me to help prep last year, came back for more and actually got to sail this time. Ivan was a last minute addition to our crew, arriving a couple days before we departed. We said our goodbyes to the lovely people we’d gotten to know over the last couple of years, enjoyed a few final swims, runs, and beers, and we were off. We left on the evening of the fourth of June, trying to catch some good wind to get off to a flying start!
